Goals of the Providence Church Institute:

This course has been designed to equip students to: 

• Understand how biblical theology function to shape and form their spiritual lives.
• Gain an overview and understanding of the Bible through major biblical events and covenants.
• Learn to read all of Scripture in light of Christ.
• Apply the story of Scripture to the story of their lives.
• To deepen an understanding of the believer’s union with Christ. 
• Understand how our union with Christ shapes our daily walk with God.
• Be commissioned into the church and the world in order to serve the church and culture through making disciples.

Member of Providence Church

The Institute is specifically intended for Providence Church members who want to be equipped and deployed throughout our church body. If you would like to participate in the Institute but are not a member of the Providence family, please reach out to us or join our next membership class to start the process of making Providence Church your home!

Class Teaching & Cohort Participation 

All students are expected to attend each bi-weekly Institute class and participate in their assigned cohort. Students are expected to be diligent to complete the weekly assignments, which correspond with the bi-weekly cohort discussions and teaching. The cohort discussion questions and assignments will help you get to the heart and application of the truths we study each week.

Reading and Assignments 

Chapters from the primary textbooks will be assigned weekly that will coincide with the class teaching and discussions. In addition to these readings, selections from Scripture, articles, excerpts, and other resources will be assigned periodically throughout the first and second semester. Reflection questions will be given from The Providence Institute curriculum that will be used to help guide your reading and retain what you’re learning. Additional assignments given throughout the year include Scripture memory, sharing your testimony, storyline of Scripture and completing your Spiritual Health Snapshot and other projects that aid spiritual formation.

Ministry Involvement 

Institute participants are encouraged to actively serve in the ministries of Providence Church, applying and teaching what they learn over the course of the Institute. 

• Christ from Beginning to End: How the Full Story of Scripture Reveals the Full Glory of Christ by Trent Hunter and Stephen Wellum.
• Union with Christ: The Blessings of Being in Him by Sinclair Ferguson.
• Authentic Ministry: Serving from the Heart by Michael Reeves.

• Course Load Expectations: In addition to the two-hour class times held bi-weekly, students should expect to spend about two to three hours between classes on reading and assignments.
• Course Schedule: Bi-weekly meetings will be held throughout the fall and spring semesters, with a winter break in December-January. Classes will be held at Providence Church on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm.
• Cost: The cost for the Institute 101 course is $50, which covers the cost of required textbooks and curriculum. Please contact us if cost is an obstacle.

• The Seminary Track is an optional opportunity available to Institute 101 students who want to earn transferable academic credit through Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. By enrolling in the Seminary Track, you will complete the regular Institute 101 readings and assignments required of all students, along with additional seminary-level readings and assignments. Successfully completing these additional requirements will allow you to receive transferable credit from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
• The Audit Only Track is designed for those who want to benefit from the teaching of Providence Institute without committing to the full course workload. Auditing allows you to attend the first 90 minutes of each Institute class for the large-group teaching led by the Equipping Pastor, without needing to participate in the readings, assignments, or small-group discussions. It’s a great option for those whose current season of life doesn’t allow for the full program but who still desire to grow in their understanding of God’s Word.

Prerequisite

Providence Institute 201 is intended for students who have completed Providence Institute 101. Because the course builds on the concepts and foundation established in Institute 101, completion of the 101 course is required before registering. 

Bi-weekly Cohort Participation

All students are expected to attend bi-weekly cohort discussions led by the Equipping Pastor. Students are expected to complete their reading assignments before each cohort meeting to encourage engagement and reflection.

Students are expected to read their assigned chapters from the primary textbook each week that will coincide with the cohort discussions.
