Church membership is about joining a family, not a club.

Becoming a member at any church is a significant step in the life of a follower of Christ. At Providence, church membership is a covenant between you and us to pursue Jesus together through the gospel, in community, and on mission. Because this is such an important step to take, we want to make sure you fully understand the commitment involved and we want the opportunity to get to know you better along the way.

Step One

Starting Point

Take your first step at Providence in this workshop led by our Lead Pastor, Afshin Ziafat. In this class, you’ll learn more about the Providence story, your next steps, and what it means to follow Christ. You will also meet others in your same position.

Next Class: January 8 | 6:30-8:00 pm

Step Two

Membership Class

The Membership Class is your chance to dive deep into what we believe and our expectations for members. You will also have a chance to meet our elders and staff, and ask any questions you may have. Dinner and childcare are provided.

Next Class: February 16 | 4:00-7:00 pm

Step Three

Elder Meeting

Following Membership Class, you’ll have a chance to sit down with one of our elders at a time that is convenient for you. This is your opportunity to share more of your story, sign the membership covenant, and go deeper into any questions or concerns you may still have.

Going Deeper

The Membership Covenant

As members, we commit to support one another’s spiritual journeys and each fulfill our own roles in the life of the church. This includes a commitment to regular involvement in groups, actively serving, financial giving, and personal holiness. It’s laid out in a covenant we make together explaining how we pursue Christ together. In your elder meeting, you’ll have a chance to sign this, making your membership at Providence official.

Membership & Spiritual Maturity

What does it actually mean to grow in Christ? What are the signs that we’re spiritually maturing? The Bible gives us examples and instructions that demonstrate what a maturing follower of Christ looks like and how intimacy with Jesus should shape our thoughts and actions. In an effort to help our members grow in maturity, we’ve laid out seven common characteristics of a mature disciple that help us better aim toward Christlikeness.

Baptism

Baptism is a critical step in any Christian’s spiritual journey. It is a tradition dating back to the New Testament that publicly demonstrates the inward transformation Jesus has made in your life. Baptism is an expectation for all new members who have not already been baptized since receiving Christ into their lives.
