Read

Here are some verses for your family to read about what happened after Adam and Eve sinned against God:

Genesis 3:8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you? 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Discuss

Ask younger kids specific questions about the story or to retell the story. Ask older kids critical thinking questions. Here are a few suggestions:

What did Adam and Eve do when they heard God walking in the garden?

Why did God ask them what they had done? Doesn’t God already know what they did?

What was the first thing God did after Adam and Eve sinned (v.21) Why is this important?

What does God promise in Gen 3:15? Who is this offspring? Why is this important?

How do you respond when you sin?

How should you respond when you sin?

Pray

Lead your family in a time of prayer over what you read.

Consider the ACTS model (Adoration- Adore or praise God, Confession- Confess sin, Thanksgiving- Thank God, and Supplication- Ask God to supply your needs)

Today we will focus on T-Thank God: God, thank you for desiring a close friendship with us. Just as we saw you walking with Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, enjoying a perfect friendship, you desire that for all of your creation. Sin broke that perfect relationship, but you sent Jesus to be our Savior and take away the sin of the world. Thank you for loving us so much that you would do that! Thank you for making a way for us to be friends again. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen!
