Welcome to Week 17

After 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, the Israelites finally come to the edge of the promised land. God remained faithful to his people throughout that time, providing for every need. By this time, the older generation has died and paid their consequences for their sins against God. The new generation is about to receive the blessing of land God promised to their forefathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Israel is a chosen people set apart by God to be his treasured possessions! He loves his people and desires for them to love him in return with all their heart, soul, and might. Before they can go into the promised land, Moses has one final message to tell them. He gives the people God’s law for the second time and reminds them that if they obey God’s commands they will be blessed, but if they disobey God’s commands they will be cursed and the consequences will be harsh. But God knew his treasured possession would not be able to love and obey him perfectly because of their sinful hearts. He was preparing a way to take their sinful hearts and make them new so they could be his people, under his rule and blessing, in his kingdom, just as he designed it to be.
