What We're Loving: Read | Watch | Listen

On occasion, the Providence staff likes to take time to make recommendations for things we've been reading, watching, and listening to. Below are some recommendations we hope will be a blessing to you in this season!
READ
Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund
For sinners and sufferers alike, this book will help everyone understand Christ’s great heart for His people.
Searching Our Hearts in Difficult Times by John Owen
This book is helpful for a couple of reasons. First, Owen is so good at encouraging us to kill sin in our pursuit of God. Secondly, the layout and size of the book make it easy to read in short chunks.
Asking the Right Questions by Matthew Harmon
A great, short book that provides practical guidance in understanding and applying the truths of God’s Word. Harmon lays out the overarching story of the Bible and builds a framework that helps readers to get to the heart of any passage.
WATCH
American Gospel: Christ Alone
A fantastic documentary and a great look at the prosperity gospel and how it differs from the true gospel. (Currently streaming for free on Netflix.)
The Chosen
This documentary about the life of Christ is well-produced, full of character depth, and reflects the great compassion that Jesus has toward sinners. Watch Season 1 in the Chosen TV app.
LISTEN
Songs from the New City Catechism
The New City Catechism takes huge scriptural truths that can be difficult to grasp and makes them simpler in these short sentences put to song. This is a great way for families to learn theology together! (Songs from the New City Catechism is available on Spotify as well as the free NewCity Catechism app.)
Dwell
The Dwell app is a great resource if you want to listen to God’s Word. The app also provides playlists based on topics and themes, as well as plans for going through the Bible chronologically or in a year. Providence is providing access to this app for free – you can download the app here.
His Mercy Is More
A rich collection of modern hymns from Matt Boswell and Matt Papa. (Available on Spotify.)
