Equip Yourselves, Together

Alongside knowing each other, and caring for one another, you should also consider how you can equip yourselves to grow in holiness.
One of the greatest benefits of marriage is that we have a lifelong partner to help us actively fight sin, pursue Christ, and grow in holiness. In addition to helping you grow personally, spouses should also consider how you can work together to actively enhance the culture of your marriage. So, this week, we are encouraging you to equip yourselves together for the sake of your marriage. There are many resources available that are designed to root your marriage on the bedrock of the gospel. Here are a few of them to help get you started!
Books on Marriage
The Meaning of Marriage by Tim & Kathy Keller helps provide a foundation for how to think about marriage. As one reviewer said, "Read this book, and you’ll gain a greater appreciation for the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is both the source of our ability to love in marriage but also our model for the self-sacrifice necessary to sustain any union." What Did You Expect? by Paul Tripp helps couples evaluate their expectations for marriage. As one reviewer stated, "Tripp offers an excellent resource that will both prepare you for potential problems and provide a message of promised provision from our great God and Savior." I Still Do: Growing Closer and Stronger Thorugh Life's Defining Moments by Dave Harvey was written to help marriages survive and thrive. Winfree Brisley wrote, "The real power in Harvey’s book is not so much in helping us see what kinds of moments will likely define our marriages, but in showing us how the gospel meets us in those moments and informs the way we respond to our spouses." This Momentary Marriage by John Piper features Piper's reflections on 40 years of marriage. This book is a call to keep our covenant and as Piper says, "The aim of this book is to enlarge your vision of what marriage is."
