“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:1-2
God, please make us your servants and help us be faithful to steward your gospel where you’ve placed us.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others (1). Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men (2). And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (3). Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (4).”
1. Selfless – Father, teach me to be concerned for others. Uproot every kind of arrogance and pride in my life, and give me a selfless heart that truly loves you and the people you created.
2. Servant – Jesus, thank you for taking on flesh and serving me with your life. Thank you for modeling what it means to live as a servant, and teach me to imitate you in the way you served people who didn’t deserve it. Help me to see specific people around me who I can serve for your glory.
3. Humble – God, give me humility to obey you, even when it’s hard. Help me not to be afraid when you call me to steward your gospel by sharing the good news with others. Reveal someone near me who needs to hear the gospel.
4. Steward – Lord, give me a desire for your glory above everything else. Motivate me to share the gospel with those around me so that they can put faith in you and proclaim your goodness as well. Help me to be faithful to steward your gospel where I am. Show me someone in my workplace or school who I can serve and with whom I can share the gospel.
